ON THE LINE
Documentary, 2019
Writer/Director/Associate Producer

Over the last 20 years, the Canadian and American women’s hockey teams have dominated their sport, trading gold medals back and forth. In their bid to be the best, these two teams have pushed each other, and together they have taken the game to new heights. But familiarity also breeds contempt; a rivalry this long-standing is bound to become personal. Every game is a new chapter in an old story and behind it all is an insatiable drive to beat the best in order to be the best. Told from the perspective of the players themselves, ON THE LINE is a first-hand account of what it’s like to be a part of the greatest rivalry in sports.

INSIDE THESE WALLS

Documentary, 2016
Writer/Director

INSIDE THESE WALLS is the story of Wang Bingzhang—the founding father of the Chinese overseas pro-democracy movement. Wang is currently serving a life sentence in solitary confinement in China after his kidnapping in 2002. His estranged family back in Montreal, whom he abandoned to pursue his activism, has inherited the legacy of a man they barely know, and after many years, they find themselves the only people left fighting for his freedom. From prison, Wang sends letters that reveal a man who is at once loving, deeply depressed, angry, confused, and slowly losing his grip on reality.  INSIDE THESE WALLS is a story about family, idealism, and a universal question—how much should the individual sacrifice for the greater good?

Produced by Prospector Films in partnership with CBC Firsthand, SODEC, CALQ, CMF.

In 2012, the Olympic Games included women’s boxing for the first time in history. But, only three weight categories would be included - 51kg, 60kg and 75kg. To compete for their Olympic dream, women boxers all over the world gained or lost weight in order to qualify for one of the three coveted categories. For Canadian boxers Ariane Fortin and Mary Spencer, two of the world’s best fighters, this meant the end of a friendship and the beginning of a fierce rivalry. LAST WOMAN STANDING follows Ariane and Mary as they set their friendship aside to fight for a dream that can only belong to one.

PRESS
"Last Woman Standing has a tough pathos, a lesson for lots of us: Sometimes the most important thing in the world isn't whether you win, or how you win, or even who you play. It's who you beat."
–Sarah Nicole Prickett, Globe and Mail
“Shot, chopped, and scored as smartly and artfully as a boxing film like Raging Bull, Last Woman Standing follows the arc of the boxers’ journey with an unwavering energy and sprightly tempo."
